One night in the desert

What does a night in the desert look like? Let me tell you everything about it, but first: itinerary!

We decided to rent a car, a beautiful Red Convertible Ford Mustang, and let me tell you it was so worth the money ! Very comfy, very easy to drive, you can enjoy the air (I loved it because during the roadtrip there were so many different scents), the sun and most of all: You are in the Californian Style Yeah!

So this is our amazing week end and I absolutely recommend it to you!

On our way we had decided to stop in a few places to make the trip more fun but also in order to discover a little bit more such as places like Ojai.

So let’s do this! Are you ready?

Saturday Morning departure at 10:00am

Entering in the GPS: Boccali Restaurant ( 3277 E Ojai Ave, Ojai, CA 93023). A cute little Italian restaurant with a view on the vineyards. Charming and delicious.

To get there from Los Angeles, we had two itineraries options, we chose the one by the road 126 which was beautiful.

After lunch, we decided to walk a little bit in the Ojai village about 2 miles away from Boccali. Loved it, so cute and charming decoration stores and clothes. My favorite was this little old coffee shop called Java & Joe.

We then decided to get back on the road to our final destination: Blue Sky Center (1000 Perkins Rd, New Cuyama, CA 93254).

The road to get there was just stunning and unforgettable, as we were driving through this National Park called Los Padres. Switching between the “savannah” to the jungle, beautiful colors… So perfect and unique, only in California…

Finally arrived to our final destination: The camp !

And here we are …: Our night in the desert…A Unique experience.

Let me tell you why we loved it… The idea of sleeping in an equipped hut in the desert for 100USD, grill a few marshmallows on the fire and meet new people (about 10max, only 5 huts) was very unique and exciting.

What to bring?

  • Tennis Shoes
  • Sheets, duvet cover, pillow cover (unless you want to sleep in the same sheets of the past guests who stayed there)
  • A bath towel (if you’re planning on taking a shower there, showers are shared)
  • A big sweater because at night, it can be chilly
  • Food and drinks. As for the food I would definitely recommend you to plan cooking on the fire which means bringing maybe sausages and buns for hot dogs, with of course the marshmallows for dessert 😉

How to book? Just here

Is there Wifi? YES! Do you need it? You shouldn’t !

Bathrooms? Yes of course! Clean but shared !

Power? YES! There is even a power outlet in your hut!

Kitchen and fridge? Yes but shared and you have to make sure that you clean all your dishes after 🙂

One night there is enough. Unique but enough.

You will have a beautiful view on the desert, but don’t expect a camp in the heart of the sand dunes! There are a few houses and people leaving around during the year. But what is great is that you will feel like if you were alone.

It’s a real great experience…

Sunday Morning, we woke up with the day light, I never realized how good it felt.

We packed and hit the road again on our way to sky diving ! Santa Barbara Sky Diving ! (1801 N H St g, Lompoc, CA 93436) yes we did things thoroughly! Ok, I have to admit that I was freaking out but thinking at the same time: once in a lifetime! All my friends who skydived told me it was unique and amazing so I thought I could give it a try… And here we are at the SkyDive Center ! But… BAD NEWS! Too much wind for us to actually do it! For real I swear, not my fault ! I wish I could tell you about my skydive experience… next time!

We then went back on the road and headed South to Santa Barbara where we had lunch in this beautiful hotel Belmond El Encanto (GPS: 800 Alvarado Pl, Santa Barbara, CA 93103) with a stunning view on the beach and on Santa Barbara.

We headed to the city of SB and walked with of course a not-to-miss quick stop at the Mc Connell’s ice cream shop. FOR SURE!

To do in Santa Barbara: Visit the Old Mission.

Shall we head back home now ? 😉

Can’t wait to hear about your trip guys!
